I work with marine air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration since 1979 and many other equipment and systems used in shipbuilding, marine and offshore industry.

 

I designed many HVAC equipment and systems including low, medium and high pressure systems, long and multiple ductwork trunks, direct expansion systems, chilled water systems using large chillers, air handling units, fan coils, chilled water pumps and so on.

 

In my opinion the best alternative to replace the costly and usual central air conditioning system for vessels, considering the cost vs. benefit, easy installation and maintenance for sure is the use of compact self-contained units installed in the various compartments of small vessels such as yachts, tugs boats, fishing boats, platform support vessels or even in merchant ships, oil tankers, jack-up rigs and other offshore platforms with accommodation for up to 180 people.

 

(*) If you doubt, ask for a quote and you will be surprised to know that the price of such HVAC system for your vessel will cost around half or a third of a conventional HVAC system depending on the configuration.

 

Many vessels are frequently retained at the port quay and not authorized to sail away due to the central air conditioning system failure.

 

Generally the crew cannot solve the problem and is necessary an emergency technical assistance, which may result a high cost to pay and unexpected delays.

  

In the decentralized system using several units, with a couple of compact air conditioning units as spare you can fix the faulty unit calmly.

 

It is as simple as replacing and repairing a window air conditioner.
